The only possible justification for taking a fight further than the automatic recount would be to keep Tim Pawlenty in office beyond his normal termination date — the day on which the Republicans assume control of the State Legislature and start immediately passing ridiculous amounts of right-wing legislation for Pawlenty to sign quickly before Dayton takes office. This would be a crass miscarriage of the electoral process, and would hurt Minnesota in very real ways.
So, expect that to happen.
