Nick Coleman underscores the importance of protecting the English language in America. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Reps. John Kline and Michele Bachmann, cosponsors of the English Language Unity Act.
The English language is indeed threatened. Just the other night, I attended the Minnesota Opera’s production of “Orpheus and Eurydice.” Get this: The performers sang every song in Italian! Even more insulting was the fact that English subtitles were projected onto a screen overhead.
It is my sincere hope that the bill will require all Italian operas to be translated into English.
