Slapdash

Small things thrown together.

Last week’s post about my music statistics was a cheat: NPR asked what my most-played song on iTunes was was, and I rambled at length about why my last.fm stats don’t reflect my tastes. So here it is: The song I’ve played the most on iTunes, and why that doesn’t reflect my tastes either.

Well, sort of. “4:35 AM,” “Little Things,” and “Rise” really are three of my favorite songs, but the reason they top the list - and “Helplessly Hoping,” too, and “The Lines Are Down” - is that they’re all songs I’ve tried to learn to play, and I’ve tried to learn them by playing along with them over and over. (Why is “4:35 AM” way out ahead? Maybe because it’s beautiful, but maybe because I tried and tried and never did get it to work.)

I never tried to learn “Cyclic” - I’m not sure the idea of learning that song even makes any sense - but for a while it was the first song I played every morning, for energy! It’s an eleven-minute song; the three-minute video gets the rockin’-out part across, but misses out on some of the trance.

Also, I really like Ida.
